Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong says Ghanaians should not worry about Special Counsel Martin Amidu’s decision to resign.
According to him, Mr. Amidu was the wrong choice for the position.
“No one should be scared or worried about the resignation of Martin Amidu. If he has resigned, so be it, he did not do a better job when he was in office, “he said.
Kennedy Agyapong stated that if the New Patriotic Party (PNP) had heeded his warning not to appoint Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor, the party would not have made its business public.
“Let me say one thing, I told NPP that it will eventually turn against them and that is what has happened.”
However, he added that he was confident that his resignation would have no consequences for the Party on December 7.
“Amidu’s statement will not affect NPP in any way in the elections,” he said.
The business mogul was commenting on Amidu’s decision to resign less than three years after being appointed by President Akufo-Addo.
According to Martin Amidu, he does not feel that President Nana Akufo-Addo has done enough to safeguard the independence of his office, hence his decision to resign.
In his letter to President Akufo-Addo, Mr. Amidu explained that “the events of November 12 deprived me of the only protection I had from the threats and plans directed at me to carry out the anti-corruption evaluation report of Agyapa Royalties Limited Transactions and dictates that I immediately resign as Special Prosecutor ”.
