Marcus Rashford says he purposely sought to exploit the tired legs of Wolves defender Rayan Aït-Nouri in preparation for his final winning goal for Manchester United.
The forward scored in injury time to secure three vital points for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team on Tuesday night.
United and Wolves seemed willing to share the spoils after a cautious encounter at Old Trafford, but they won the game in the end when Rashford played with the Wolves defense before seeing their effort deflected find the net.
Speaking after the match, Rashford revealed that he had noticed that Aït-Nouri suffered from cramps late in the game and was looking to exploit his fatigue in the decisive moments of the match.
“It is the decisive goal,” Rashford told Amazon Prime. “It’s probably not the most beautiful, but we will take what we can, take all three points and move on.
“Today was tough, but we expected a difficult game, but we managed to overcome the line.
“The winger had a cramp a few minutes before so I had it in my head. I wanted to go over to him and spin him and see if he could make something happen and luckily we got a detour in the end.
“It means a lot. We were a bit disappointed that we didn’t play as well as we wanted or could have, but it’s three points and no matter how difficult it was, we’ll take it.”
