Instead of marching “hypocritically and dishonestly” for probity and accountability in honor of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) should be marching over the SADA graffiti scandals, the bus brand and Airbus bribery, Vice- President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said.
Dr. Bawumia told supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) in the auditorium of Yendi High School in Yendi, Northern Region, on Saturday, November 21, 2020, that for a party that “disrespected” its Founder himself while alive, he found it “dishonest” that the NDC professed Mr. Rawlings’ values now that he no longer exists.
“Today, after the death of the former president, may your soul rest in peace, Jerry John Rawlings, they are now there saying that they are marching in his honor for probity and responsibility.
“Where was the probity and responsibility when they were cutting the SADA money?
“They should be marching for the SADA guinea fowl, not for probity and responsibility; That is the march they should be doing and we will see what responsibility they have given.
“They should be marching for the bus brand scandal, they should be marching for the Airbus scandal.
In his opinion, the NDC is a party of hypocrites and dishonest people who denigrated their founder while he lived, but now march for his values.
“When Jerry John Rawlings was alive, [NDC] They did not march for probity and responsibility; they were disrespecting him, they called him “barking dog”, “the god Volta”, weren’t they?
“They were disrespecting him, they got babies with sharp teeth to attack him; Is that not the case? Today, now that he is dead, they say they are marching for probity and responsibility.
“Their march should be called ‘the march of hypocrisy and dishonesty.’ That is the march they should take: hypocrisy and dishonesty, ”said Dr. Bawumia.
Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12, 2020.
As part of activities to commemorate his passing, the NDC has been organizing a series of activities such as vigils and marches in memory of the late president.
The party’s general secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, at one point even accused President Nana Akufo-Addo and the government of trying to “hijack” the funeral of the late military leader.
