The ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), Assin Central MP Ken Agyapong, has criticized state ministers who served in President Akufo Addo’s first term, describing many as bad managers.
The violent legislator made the comments in response to calls by some members of the PNP to President Akufo Addo not to name any of the 19 vice ministers who were deputies who lost their seats in his next government at the beginning of his second term.
But in an interview on a program called ‘SeniƐ Ɛti nie’ broadcast by Adom TV, monitored by Kasapafmonline.com, the eccentric politician jumped to the defense of such deputy ministers and urged the president to look beyond his defeat and appoint the competent ones in his government.
According to Hon. Ken Agyapong, most ministers did not give their deputies opportunities to function efficiently, prompting some of them to occupy their seats in the parliamentary elections on December 7, 2020.
“Some of the former vice ministers are very competent. They lost their seats due to certain difficulties. Why shouldn’t such appointees get a ministerial appointment in the next Akufo Addo government? The truth is that many of the managerial skills of ministers are very poor. We lost 19 vice ministers, if you go to their offices, they are there as vice ministers, but not even a common document goes through their desk to move on. Meanwhile, that deputy has a constituency just like his boss, the substantive minister. ”
Hon. Ken Agyapong added: “I always advise those who are going to occupy vice ministerial positions not to accept that offer and to focus on being parliamentarians because the moment your constituents know that you are a vice minister they expect a lot from you while their bosses don’t give them a chance to function well. Once you are appointed to the ministry as vice ministers, substantive ministers render them useless. The ministers deal directly with the principal directors and I am not afraid to speak this truth to the ministers’ face. I can’t sit here knowing the truth to keep quiet and blame the vice ministers. Most of them had no chances. ”
