Manchester United are looking to add two wins out of two in the Champions League with their first European home game of the season against RB Leipzig.
United recorded an impressive 2-1 victory at PSG last week to start the season winningly, with Leipzig currently leading the group after their 2-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made a significant first start to the summer signing of Donny van de Beek, with the Dutchman set to operate from the left flank as Marcus Rashford is named alongside the substitutes.
Solskjaer has selected a midfield trio consisting of Fred, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba, while Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are also starters.
United lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Matic, Pogba, Fred; Van de Beek, Greenwood, Marcial
Subs: Henderson, Fosu-Mensah, Many, Tuanzebe, Williams, Fernandes, Mata, James, McTominay, Cavani, Ighalo, Rashford

Gea Alert
Right after United took the lead, David De Gea was needed to push a powerful effort from Kampl around the post.

Greenwood responds to criticism
This is how you respond to your critics. Mason Greenwood has endured a bit of a beating lately, but Solskjaer has supported him throughout all the media coverage.
The teenager is a generational talent and the fact that he made the ending seem so simple is just a credit to his exceptional abilities.

United’s midfield deserves credit
That goal showed the brilliance of this United midfielder’s performance so far: Fred has been on the alert from the start and Pogba played the pass to perfection.
That too will do Greenwood a lot of good after a stressful start to the season. Upamecano could have blinked and not seen him at the time, it was that fast.

Target given!
The goal remains. It seemed slightly offside, but VAR clearly disagrees and United leads.

VAR is checking
Here there is the possibility of offside. Is near.

Greenwood scores!
Pogba feeds him and he doesn’t go wrong with a good left-footed shot that crosses the goalkeeper in the far corner. United leadership.

Solskjaer wants more from Martial
Solskjaer just told Martal to play “higher”. United have taken some joy in upsetting Leipzig’s attempts to play from behind, so they are reluctant to leave Greenwood isolated for useless pressure.
United have quickly established themselves in this new setup and all four midfielders have had good games so far. Pressing is cheered on from both sides.

Things have calmed down
After a spirited start, the defenses have taken control of it. United are still looking to get the ball down and create an opening, but Leipzig are also looking for overtaking.

Martial must do better
That was poor Martial: he had to find Greenwood. The run was obvious and so was the pass, but he played it too far from him.
Both teams push aggressively; Leipzig is as intense as their coach and United have a lot of energy at the top to upset Upamecano and Halstenberg, who were easily outscored in that opening at the time. It has been a really worth seeing start.

Pogba starting off brightly
Pogba has already been much more expressive starting in that forward role to the left of the diamond. There’s more enthusiasm in him and he’s already made things happen a couple of times.
Maguire’s jumps in those two sets bode well for the rest of this game for United. Luke Shaw clearly attacked him with both installments and Leipzig could do little to appease him.

Martial gets in the box
Upamecano gives the ball to Fred, who feeds Martial into the box, but his center is just behind Mason Greenwood and Leipzig clears.

Matic needs to perform
It’s a great night for Nemanja Matic now that Fred and Scott McTominay have established themselves as the ultimate ‘big game’ duo.
He couldn’t be abandoned in the post-lockout race, but now he seems less confident on the team. He only signed a new contract in the summer months and will now be determined to ensure that it is spent in the field, rather than in the bank.

Fred and Shaw get closer
A free kick comes out for Fred, whose shot is deflected into the corner, but the Leipzig goalkeeper throws it into the post.
From the first, it comes out to Luke Shaw, whose well-hit shot is blocked.

Leipzig in family training
Solskajer spoke before the game about preparing for various Leipzig formations. They are lined up in a recognizable 3-5-2 formation with their wings advancing.

Third new formation in as many games
It was a 4-3-2-1 against Newcastle and Chelsea, a 3-5-2 against PSG and now a 4-1-2-1-2 against RB Leipzig tonight.
Time will tell if the tactical change pays off as it did last week, but Solskjaer has certainly shown that he is capable of switching teams when necessary.

Van De Beek in role number 10
Van de Beek is definitely 10 and it looks like Fred is to the right of the diamond, although it’s still too early to say for sure that’s United’s way.
The Leipzig delegation tries to be as loud as Nagelsmann’s jacket in the absence of supporters. His side has started on purpose.

PSG result puts pressure on United
PSG have won 2-0 in Istanbul and have achieved their first three points in the group.
It means avoiding defeat is now crucial for United tonight, with a victory obviously the desired outcome. However, a defeat would really open up the group and undo the hard work of victory at the Parc des Princes.

United’s history with a diamond
The diamond has been little used by United after Ferguson. Louis van Gaal never mastered the balance with his heavier teams and Solskjaer had some success at Everton in March when Fernandes and Matic excelled.
In England, it is probably more synonymous with the national team in 2004 and with Sven-Goran Eriksson putting Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard and Beckham into the same team.

What Solskjaer said about the Upamecano rumors
Paul Scholes just told United that they need a player like RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
Here’s what Solskjaer had to say about the French:

PSG heading to the three points
They are ahead of United in terms of goals scored, with three points from two games.

Thinking ahead with Fernandes
Solskjaer said yesterday that team selections should be made with future games in mind and that is evident with the removal of Fernandes from the lineup tonight.
Sooner or later he was going to give him a break in the middle of the week and he could also be seen at the bank in Istanbul next week. Greenwood is making his first outing in 24 days, so he’s gotten some rest.

PSG leads in Istanbul
They will join United and Leipzig in three points as is.

Lingard and Pogba joking around in the training ground
Jesse Lingard is not involved tonight, but we know that he is back in training camp thanks to this video on Paul Pogba’s Instagram.

Looking at those quotes from Solskjaer
There is no real context from Solskjaer on his team’s selections, other than citing the workload some players have had.
Five changes is a sensible amount and Leipzig is not disrespectful in remembering Martial, Pogba, Van de Beek and Greenwood.
You feel like Solskjaer keeps his cards close to his chest until the start, regarding the formation. It is a great challenge for the formation, whatever it is, to face the leaders of the Bundesliga.

Ole explains team selection
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tells BT SPORT:
On the basis of PSG:
It was a great result and a good start. We want to get to ten points as soon as possible and as soon as possible. Against a good team like tonight we have to do well, keep doing what we did last week, we have started to look like a team again, on and off the ball.
About Van De Beek and Pogba:
They have also been waiting behind the scenes, we picked a team that we think may cause trouble for Leipzig tonight.
About Rashford and Fernandes:
Bruno and Marcus have played the last five, three for us and two internationals. Scott played the last three plus three internationals. So five games in 14 days, six games in 17 for Scotty. You have to take care of the players. Medically, that is what we consider to be correct today.
On Leipzig’s expectations:
Very high tempo, a lot of energy. Very skilled tactically. You never know how your team will form. We are prepared for some options for what they have done before. We have to cause them more trouble than they can cause us. I chose a team that we believe can win the game and cause problems. I will always choose a team that I believe can win the game.
