Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford to “learn” from newcomer Edinson Cavani.

The 33-year-old showed his scoring instinct with two well-finished efforts in an impressive 3-2 win against Southampton on Sunday.

Cavani came off the bench at half-time and his move was too much for a shattered Southampton to do, despite their two-goal lead.

The forward was ruled out by many prior to his arrival at Old Trafford, with some saying it was a panic move given that the Uruguayan international had not played for seven months.

But Ferdinand believes Cavani possesses the kind of killer instinct that has been lacking at Old Trafford and has urged the club’s other forwards to learn from the Uruguayan’s game.

“The amount that Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial will learn from this guy and his move is incredible,” Ferdinand told FIVE YouTube channel.

‘It’s worth having just for that to improve these guys, but they must be willing to learn. They have to want to learn.

‘They have to look at Edinson Cavani and say,’ I want that in my game. How am I going to do that? Analysis man at the club, can you give me some videos of Cavani’s move?

‘That’s the kind of thing you have to do to improve. Self-analysis, self-reflection. Look at yourself. Who can I learn from? He is the man.

‘I heard more than 200 goals at PSG, he knows what to do. I’d be taking advantage of that massively. ‘
