Manchester United are interested in signing Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo from Independiente del Valle in the January transfer window as part of a new recruiting strategy.
The MEN understands that United want to sign Caicedo, 19, so he can move to Manchester in the New Year due to new work permit regulations.
United has decided to pursue the highest-rated teen talent around the world, having previously preferred to pursue long-term goals between the ages of 23 and 28.
Caicedo only turned 19 last month, but he made his Ecuador debut in October and has reached four international matches, starting in his last four World Cup qualifiers.
United agreed to deals for teen wingers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo on the day of the October deadline, and Diallo, 18, will move to Manchester from Atalanta next month.
Caicedo started in Independiente’s 4-0 win over Orense on Friday after recovering from a muscle injury and could be involved in his last game of the year against Macara.
