Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been hailed for his tactical touch-ups in which Manchester United achieved a close 1-0 victory against Wolves.
The Red Devils appeared poised for a goalless draw at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as they failed to break through the visitors’ determined defense.
However, Marcus Rashford stole an unlikely victory for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with a goal deflected in injury time.
The 23-year-old’s blow came from the right side, a change Solskjaer fabricated after bringing substitute Anthony Martial to the left side of United’s attack.
Martial’s introduction saw Rashford switch to the right side, with Edinson Cavani leading the line, and Ian Wright praised the decision to do so.
“I think Ole deserves credit for the way he switched Marcus Rashford from the left side to the right side,” said the Arsenal legend, as quoted by Metro.
When he did that, from the left, the runs he was doing were inside out, he wasn’t really hurting his defense.
“He was putting the ball in positions where they were very happy, very comfortable.
“When you have Bruno Fernandes who can hit the ball like this… he still has a lot to do, but we are talking about someone with supreme confidence.
“ He’s lucky, he takes the detour from Saiss, who had a brilliant game, and scores the goal. Brilliant game of him today.
And you have to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer credit.
United’s victory takes them to second place in the Premier League, two points behind the table leaders and staunch rivals Liverpool.
Speaking after the game, Rashford revealed that he targeted Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri in the final minutes of the game, but admitted that Romain Saiss’ wicked deflection for his goal was a bit lucky.
“ It’s probably not the most beautiful goal, but we will take what we can, take all three points and move on, ” the forward told Amazon Prime.
“Today was a tough game, we expected it, but at the end of the day we managed to get over the line.
‘The side suffered a cramp a few minutes (before the goal). I had in my head, “The next time I have the ball I’m going to make it spike and spin and make something happen.” Luckily, he turned aside and entered.
