Manchester United were only one step away from securing the signing of Jadon Sancho, but failed disastrously in the deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The talented Englishman was believed to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main target for the summer transfer window and fans were desperate to see him hired.
Unfortunately Borussia Dortmund held their ground and Sancho did not complete a transfer, but it was not as simple or straightforward as that.
United ended up signing five players in this window, four of them on the deadline, much to the surprise of the fans.
Fans wanted to see a speedy execution of the transfers this summer, but instead key goals were not signed and most of the business was done late.

Changing the pay structure when you’re just one step away doesn’t make any sense, particularly when there was no one else the club was obviously after.
Sancho was the goal of the summer and awkwardly signing him just to bring in others who weren’t expensive at all in the last second is a shocking decision.
To make matters worse, Manchester United were outclassed by their rivals and their net spending is embarrassingly low for a club of their size.
If Solskjaer still wants Sancho, the club will now have to compete with a host of European giants to close the deal.
The transfer window this summer has been one of the strangest in living memory. So remember the less stressful days and test your knowledge of past United arrivals and departures in our quiz below.
