Manchester United will kick off their Champions League campaign with a trip to Paris Saint-Germain.
The draw for the group stage of the top European competition was held on Thursday in Geneva, with United in Group H, which has been dubbed the ‘Group of Death’, along with last year’s runners-up PSG, last year’s semi-finalists RB Leipzig and newcomers Istanbul Basaksehir.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team now knows in what order they will face their opponents and couldn’t get off to a harder start, with a trip to face the French champion in Paris on October 20.
However, United are confident in the fact that their last visit to Le Parc des Princes ended with a historic and unlikely comeback victory to eliminate PSG from the round of 16 of the 2018/19 season.
United host Leipzig from the Bundesliga at Old Trafford the following week, on October 28, before traveling to Istanbul to face Basaksehir on November 4.
Due to the truncated nature of the season, three sets of matches will be played three weeks apart, with a two-week break before the matches are played in another three-week block.
Basaksehir will travel to Manchester on November 24 and then PSG will also visit Old Trafford on December 2. United’s group stage matches will come to an end with the away game in Leipzig on 8 December.
UEFA has made concessions in case COVID affects the group stage of the Champions League. The games can be played until January 28 in case the virus derails the planned schedule and delays the matches.
If it is not possible to complete the group stage within this window, then a committee will have the task of deciding which clubs qualify for the knockout stages.
