And here is the city manager, Gareth Taylor
“We are a bit disappointed. We had so much control in the first half that we absolutely led the game and we could have been three or four ahead. We didn’t implement our game enough in the second period. They scored a goal out of nowhere and looked dangerous from set pieces. It feels like they’ve lost two points, especially with the position we were in.
“We needed to stay 2-0 for a little longer and stick to our principles instead of trying to force things. When we try to force it, we create our own problems. We played through them relentlessly in the first half; we just needed to save a few more opportunities. But the effort, the attitude and part of the football that we played in the first half was first class ”.

Here’s the extremely impressive Casey Stoney “I take full responsibility for the first half, I think I misunderstood the press. I had to change that and make sure we pushed differently because they were taking us away. The players were incredible. I told you a moment ago that I am more proud of them today than I was last week because of the change in mentality: last year we could have lost 2-0. In the end we were unlucky not to win it.
Kirsty Hanson was brilliant. That is why we call our substitutes ‘game changers’, whether they come to make us solid or to give opponents more trouble, time and again they come and change the game. What a Tobin Heath finale, it’s world class and that’s why we signed these players. No guardian will save that. “
“That second half performance was our fans; we know how much it means to them. The players work very hard, there are no shortcuts to success, and I think now we believe that we can go head-to-head against the best teams. “

That was a great Manchester derby. It was also a game of two different 45 minute segments. City were sensational in the first half and more than deserved their 2-0 lead, with Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs scoring excellent goals.
United’s response to such extreme adversity was completely admirable. A violent shot by Tobin Heath brought them back into play and substitute Kirsty Hanson scored the equalizer with 16 minutes remaining. United could even have won it, as Lucy Staniforth had a header cleared off the line in the last minute. That would have been desperately unfair for City.

90 + 3 min Ninety seconds left. It’s starting to look like a tie.
14:23
90 + 1 min There will be four additional minutes. It was a throbbing second half.
14:23
90 min: Stokes clears the line! United almost snatched the victory from him. Another magnificent corner kick from Galton was directed toward goal by Staniforth at the six-yard line. Roebuck was defeated, but Stokes took it off and Walsh completed the punt.

89 min James is fouled by Greenwood on the right side, 35 yards from goal. Staniforth’s free kick is led behind by the tireless Mewis.
14:20
88 min City make their third substitution: Jess Park replaces Georgia Stanway.
14:19
86 min Stanway and Mewis have blocked shots in quick succession. I have a feeling there will be a late winner, although I have no idea by which end.
14:17
85 min Roebuck comfortably holds Hanson’s long-range shot.
14:17
85 min Another change from City: striker Laura Coombs is replaced by Caroline Weir.
14:16
83 min Galton’s corner authoritatively walks away on the near post by Houghton (I think).
14:15
83 min Batlle’s cross is headed by Houghton. It is impossible to call a winner; both teams still look dangerous in the future.
14:12
80 min Beckie misses a half chance for City, trailing a fumble from 12 yards after a Mewis bunt.
14:10
77 min This game is further proof of Casey Stoney’s managerial excellence. United were outscored to an almost humiliating degree in the first half; his response, presumably inspired by Stoney’s team talk at halftime, has been truly impressive.
14:08
76 min City makes their first substitution: Janine Beckie replaces Ellen White.
14:07
Substitute Kirsty Hanson has called! It came from the corner of Galton, who hit an unseen City defender and bounced toward Hanson in the six-yard box. His first shot was brilliantly blocked by Roebuck, but Hanson hit the rebound at the net.

71 min Scorer Tobin Heath is replaced by Lucy Staniforth.
14:03
70 min James has been in high spirits since he arrived. United could easily clinch a point here, which was unthinkable after the first-half beating.
14:02
69 min: Just far from Stanway! What a brilliant effort that was. Kelly swings away from Millie Turner down the right and throws an excellent cross to the far post. Stanway crosses Batlle, 12 yards and volleys this very spacious.
14:00
68 min James deftly controls the ball, cuts off Greenwood and hits the bar from 20 yards. The first part was excellent, the second not so much.
13:57
64 min Heath taunts Bronze and blocks the ball to James in the area. She walks away from Houghton, but slips in the act of shooting; Roebuck makes a comfortable stop.

61 min BT Sport’s broadcast is back, just in time to see Ellen White volley over the bar from close range. That was a very good opportunity. Moments later, Earps comfortably saves Bronze’s shot.

58 min We still have problems, I’m afraid, so I have no idea what has happened in the last few minutes. I know United has signed Lauren James for Christen Press, who had a quiet game.
13:51
United have started the second half well and now they are back in the game. They pressured City fiercely from a goal kick and it had the desired effect, with Bronze playing a loose square pass that went straight to Heath just inside the box. He let the ball run through his body and burned an upward path past Roebuck. What a finale!

51 min I’m afraid we are having some technical problems. In The positive side is that you haven’t missed any meaningful action.

47 min I forgot to say that United made a substitution at halftime, with Kirsty Hanson replacing Jessica Sigsworth.
13:22
Half time: Man Utd 0-2 Man City
Peep! That was, cliché alert, a bit of a reality check for United, which was totally outmatched and lagged behind a couple of good goals from Chloe Kelly and Laura Coombs. City, who played with a murderous purpose, could be four or five ahead.
13:18
That was a spectacular ending. Mewis had a long-range shot blocked by Amy Turner, but Coombs picked up the fumble on the edge of the area and hit an upward shot that passed Earps. United will be pleased that Kelly was offside in preparation, although in a broader sense they cannot have complaints about the scoreboard.
13:17
OBJECTIVE! Man Utd 0-2 Man City (Coombs 45 + 1)
Laura Coombs leads City to a two-goal lead!
