Lionel Messi could join Manchester City on a free transfer next year, and he could be linked with the Premier League club’s parent organization for a long time.
A new report from England says the City Football Group will offer the Argentine superstar a 10-year contract that would see him play first for Manchester City and then, when ready, play for any of the other CFG clubs. You could also take on an ambassadorial post after your retirement.
Perhaps most intriguing, that could set a move to New York City FC, a CFG team owns the majority. The idea of Messi in New York seems like a great event in world football, but there are other options: Melbourne City FC of Australia and Yokohama F. Marinos of Japan seem possibilities. CFG also owns all or a stake in five other clubs, although a move to these seems even more unlikely.
Messi publicly acknowledged that he wanted to move from Barcelona last summer, but was prevented from doing so by the Catalans. However, it is possible that he will no longer be able to bind you against your will any longer, as your contract is up soon.
City are said to think having their former mentor, Pep Guardiola, as their coach will tempt the Argentine to join, something that would send CFG’s marketing revenue skyrocketing.
