Manchester City and PSG reflect on the transfer of Lionel Messi with the Barcelona star open to talks

Lionel Messi is now free to speak to other clubs as his contract with Barcelona enters its final six months.

The Argentine almost left the Camp Nou last summer before opting to stay one more year.

Manchester City and PSG were two of the clubs most linked to their services and now they can start discussions if they wish.

Messi decided not to take the Catalans to court when he tried to force their exit.

But the 33-year-old’s future is far from certain as both City and PSG seek to steer him away from Spain.

The transfer move that would overshadow anything else in history has been rekindled again with the Marca cover saying “Messi is free to negotiate.”

A trade to Etihad would allow the forward to reunite with Pep Guardiola as he heads to Paris would see him team up with Neymar again.

Incoming PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino is interested in his compatriot and the club hopes to build on relationships between some of its key people and the Argentine.

It is understood that a decision has not yet been made that the upcoming Barcelona presidential elections have nothing to do with Messi’s future.

The Argentine has become frustrated with the way Barcelona operates and publicly aired his greivances on several occasions last season.

A transfer to Man City would mean a reunion with Pep Guardiola

Josep Maria Bartomeu has since resigned in a move that will increase Messi’s chances of staying.

But there is a possibility that it could end a nearly two-decade association with the Catalan giants.

The 33-year-old has recently come out of the closet and has appeared to underscore his commitment to Barcelona.

Messi spoke openly about the difficulties he experienced while searching for new pastures.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner signaled his desire to leave through a burofax and thought that a clause in his contract allowed him to leave for free.

Barcelona argued however that the deadline to activate it had passed.
