Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has instructed his lawyers to initiate legal action against Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.
In a press release on Tuesday, the award-winning journalist said the lawmaker has been participating in a sustained smear campaign of outright lies against him.
“This started when I published the documentary ‘Sales Contracts’ which involved and resulted in the removal of the executive director of the Public Procurement Authority, Adjenim Boateng Adjei,” he said.
The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has established that the dismissed executive director of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Adjenim Boateng Adjei, unilaterally modified the decisions of the Board to favor Talent Discovery Limited.
This was after his company was disqualified from a bidding process.
This disclosure is contained in a CHRAJ decision that urged the president to dismiss Mr. Adjenim Adjei from his post and disqualified him from holding public office for the next five years.
According to the journalist, it is within the “right of Agyapong to support Mr. Adjenim Adjei, who defended the contract of Kennedy’s wife Agyapong with the Ministry of Energy worth more than ¢ 100 million when doubts were raised about the property of the contract”.
“However, it is unacceptable that he continues to blatantly lie when he knows that there is nothing true in his malicious and defamatory claims that I sought a bribe in the investigation report.”
Azure Awuni says her lawyers have warned her to ignore the vociferous politician and businessman when he started the fake posts.
But, he noted, “it is obvious that it has not stopped and will not stop unless a court forces it to do so.”
Therefore, he has instructed his lawyers to initiate legal action against Mr. Agyapong and the platforms he used to publish the falsehood.
