Manchester United are confident that teenager Amad Diallo will be able to join from Atalanta next month.
The winger, which will cost £ 37m once riders are activated, agreed to the move in October but stayed with the Serie A club until January.
United is in the process of obtaining an endorsement from the FA Governing Body that will lead to the 18-year-old obtaining a work permit.
Diallo has made a league appearance for Atalanta this season. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has high hopes that he will progress quickly at Old Trafford.
United are interested in Schalke central defender Ozan Kabak, 20.
It is likely to cost around £ 25 million, with Liverpool and RB Leipzig also in the frame.
Kabak is a younger and cheaper option than Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, which was among United’s preferred options. It has a purchase clause, which is understood to be around 36.5 million pounds, but it also has a great interest on the part of Bayern Munich.
Meanwhile, United keeps a brief watch on Ecuadorian midfielder Moisés Caicedo of Independiente del Valle.
The 19-year-old has been investigated, but reports of a £ 4.5 million settlement are premature.
