Man Utd is confident of getting a deal with Jadon Sancho, while Liverpool could suffer a financial hit …
BARGAIN SANCHO
Man Utd is confident he will sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer and on a reduced price deal, according to reports.
The German club rejected United’s attempts to land Sancho, holding out € 120 million (£ 107 million) that the Red Devils were unwilling to match. Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke did not rule out a future transfer to Old Trafford for Sancho, claiming Man Utd “Misjudged” the situation in the summer.
Sancho has since struggled to rediscover the way who saw Man Utd’s interest pique first, scoring no goals and getting three assists in his first 11 games of the Bundesliga season. And now 90min claims the Red Devils are “confident they can now get to the England winger for much less” than the summer asking price.
The report adds that Man Utd believes its “bet not to give in to Borussia Dortmund’s € 120 million asking price” will now pay off. Man Utd’s board “believes they are in a strong position to get a transfer over the line this year and they will do so for less than £ 100 million.” Sancho is ‘interested in joining’ the Premier League club and Manchester United ‘is not concerned’ about his poor form this season.
90min they say sources have told them that United “believe current circumstances will reduce the figure” and that the Red Devils are “looking at an early deal” before the start of the Euro in the summer.
COUTINHO BLOWN
Liverpool could lose a large chunk of the money from the deal that allowed Philippe Coutinho to join Barcelona, according to reports.
The Brazilian international has struggled to make a big impact since moving to Barcelona for £ 142m in January 2018 and spending last season on loan at Bayern Munich. Coutinho has won a league title every season since leaving Anfield, but Money earned from his departure helped Liverpool win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League last season.
However the Daily star says Liverpool are “about to miss another big chunk” of the big deal that saw him leave Anfield. Coutinho is likely to be out five months after surgery on his injured knee. The report says the 28-year-old “is now not guaranteed to make the 100 starts that would see Jurgen Klopp boosted by another £ 18 million.”
The Reds have already lost £ 9m after Barcelona failed to win the Champions League in Coutinho’s first two seasons at the club.
