Manchester United’s loss to Istanbul Basaksehir on Wednesday night increased the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with reports claiming that Mauricio Pochettino has already been approached to replace the Norwegian.
Generally speaking, United’s current squad would be a good fit with Pochettino, but the Argentine has a very different style and would probably ask for some new players to help him achieve his long-term vision.
Express Sport looks at five possible signings that would help former Tottenham boss Pochettino make the United team his own.
Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund)
United are well equipped for attackers, especially after the deadline, says Edinson Cavani’s signing on a free transfer.
But Pochettino likes his center forward to push from the front and Anthony Martial, Solskjaer’s top pick at number nine, is a more languid figure when it comes to pushing.

This could see United make a move for a new striker and Erling Haaland would be a perfect fit. Of course, the Red Devils lost to the Norwegian earlier this year, and the youngster decided to join Borussia Dortmund.
But his shares have only risen since then and it is rumored that a release clause could make his signing feasible.
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
Pochettino knows better than anyone what Harry Kane can bring to a team.
The two figures worked together to great effect during the Argentine’s time as Tottenham manager, with Kane blossoming into one of the best center-forwards in the Premier League under his leadership.
Kane has hinted at a possible Spurs exit before, so Manchester United could get encouragement from the player himself to make a move.

While Kane is playing well with José Mourinho, a meeting with Pochettino at Old Trafford would surely have some appeal.
Tariq Lamptey (Brighton)
While Aaron Wan-Bissaka has secured a regular starting spot in Manchester United’s first team since arriving from Crystal Palace last year, he could have a hard time giving Pochettino what he’s looking for in a winger.
Wan-Bissaka has a defensive mentality. Pochettino likes to attack the wings.
Tariq Lamptey has been one of the success stories of the season so far, impressing everyone who has watched the teenager in Brighton.
Lamptey is a force of nature on the Seagulls’ right side and would give United the kind of attacking outlet they currently don’t have on that side.
Ricardo Pereira (Leicester City)
As mentioned, Pochettino could look for a more offensive option than Wan-Bissaka in the right-back role.
This could lead Manchester United to Ricardo Pereira, the Portuguese international who has emerged as one of the best attacking backs in the Premier League for Leicester City in the past two seasons.

Pereira has been out of the game for much of 2020 due to injury, so United would have to make sure of his fitness before making a move, but the 27-year-old could be Pochettino’s perfect winger.
Pereira is entering his best years and is already proven in the Premier League. Persuading Leicester City to sell it would be the tricky part.
Declan Rice (West Ham United)
Pochettino would certainly have options in midfield as Manchester United manager, but he would lack someone to fill the role of Eric Dier that he carved out at Tottenham.
This is where Declan Rice would address a deficiency and give Pochettino a player to help build a central pillar for his United team.
Whether it’s January or next summer, Manchester United will likely face stiff competition from the West Ham United midfielder, and Chelsea are believed to be very interested.
Rice could be a strong addition to Pochettino’s base midfield and is even capable of falling to the center of defense.
