Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Edinson Cavani’s brief cameo against Chelsea when the new signing made his Manchester United debut and believes he will be an excellent addition.

The 33-year-old arrived as a free agent on the day of the deadline, having left Paris Saint-Germain for the summer, and has been working to be in top form after not playing since March, when the coronavirus crisis canceled the Ligue 1 season.

Cavani came off the bench in the 58th minute in Saturday’s 0-0 draw, entering the fray alongside Paul Pogba, and nearly scored on his first touch while providing a more fixed presence inside the area.

Solskjaer was happy with what the veteran forward showed in his 30 minutes on the field and believes Cavani will only get better as he has more playing time under his belt.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Solskjaer said of the Uruguayan: ‘Well, you know he’s been out for a while and had a good run to the near post, a little move almost scored there.

‘He showed that he was a presence in the area, I think it was Thiago Silva who had a nice block from him.

But it will give us a lot. He’s already come in, he’s had a huge influence and impact on training ground, but we know he takes playing time to get his sharpness.

He’s got smart moves, great runs, he’s an experienced center forward.

“And the more we get the ball into and around the area, the more we get some goals from him.”

Speaking to Match of the Day, he added: ‘It gives us something different than what we have, of course. Now we have a different center forward than the ones we already had ”.
