Manchester United have been given advice on how to play Bruno Fernandes alongside Paul Pogba in midfield, but the World Cup winner may not be on board.
The former United Jaap Stam center-back hopes that the Red Devils ‘£ 89 million transfer record can reach its best form on his return from injury, and complement Fernandes’ new signing.
However, to do so, Stam recommends that Pogba be played alongside Scott McTominay and behind Fernandes, who assumes role # 10.
Stam told Goal: “Pogba is a creative player, he wants to play a little his way, and sometimes you have to give him a little freedom.”

“If you look at Fernandes, Pogba and McTominay, I think those three together in midfield could be very interesting. Fernandes could play at No. 10 and Pogba could play as one of two seated midfield players.”
“He also has the legs to move forward, so you can play with two midfielder players if things go well, but otherwise he may fall alongside McTominay and they could play with a single No. 10.”
“Pogba has the legs to run from box to box, so if he can do it, it will give him more freedom to play. I think it would be very interesting.”
While Pogba is not a No. 10, he performed best when he received the most creative freedom from any player in midfield three.
He won the World Cup with France with Blaise Matuidi and N’Golo Kante sweeping behind him, and he was in the shape of his life on the tip of a diamond in midfield in Juventus
Playing as a “sitting midfielder,” as Stam suggests, is unlikely to get the best of the Frenchman, who fought in a similar role under José Mourinho.
