- Facundo Pellistri hopes to make a ‘dream’ debut with Manchester United soon
- The 19-year-old Uruguayan winger has played for United’s reserves since arriving in the summer
- His compatriot Edinson Cavani has been helping him adjust to life at Old Trafford
- Pellistri was an unused substitute in two Champions League games
- And he hopes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will join him in the team in the coming weeks.
Facundo Pellistri has revealed how fellow Uruguayan Edinson Cavani is helping him establish himself at Manchester United as he fixes on a first-team debut.
The 19-year-old winger joined United from Peñarol in his homeland in October on a £ 10 million contract and has so far played for the under-23 and under-21 teams.
Pellistri is now training with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s senior team and it seems like a matter of time before he makes his debut.

Pellistri celebrates United’s Under-21s goal against Accrington Stanley at the Papa John’s Trophy last month
‘It’s been amazing training with guys like [Marcus] Rashford, [Paul] Pogba, [Juan] Mata and Edi, who is a very good friend of mine, ” Pellistri told Man United’s official website.
‘It’s amazing for me because I saw them on TV and now I’m practicing with them. The intensity, the quality they have, it’s great for me to play with them and I improve a lot.
‘I talk to Edi all the time and she is a very nice person. He is always trying to be close to me, giving me advice and everything I need. He is there to help me and that is very important to me. I’m very happy with that.
“I know he is one of the best players in the world and one of the best Uruguay players of all time, but he is also a very nice person.”
The 19-year-old winger is an impressive performer for United’s reserve team and is looking forward to a senior debut in the coming weeks.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promoted Pellistri to first team training last month
Although the Covid-19 restrictions have meant that Pellistri cannot explore as much Manchester and England as he would have liked, he is settling in and working to improve his English.
Pellistri scored in Premier League 2 matches against Southampton and Manchester City for the Under-23 team and also for the Under-21 team against Accrington Stanley at the Papa John’s Trophy.
He has also been an unused substitute for Solskjaer’s side for two Champions League games, away to Paris Saint-Germain and at home to Istanbul Basaksehir.
But Solskjaer has made it clear that Pellistri will be given time to adjust to the English game in the reserves before stepping up.
“For me, it will be a dream to have a chance in the first team and fight for a place,” said Pellistri.
And that Manchester goes to the top. That is my biggest dream.
‘Yeah that’s what I’m working on [making his senior debut] and hopefully I’ll have it. ‘
Pellistri says he is adjusting to life in England and the demands of football in his new country
United will host local rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night before hosting Championship Watford in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.
Cavani, 33, has scored four goals for United since arriving in the summer following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.
But he will miss United’s next two games as he serves a three-game suspension for misconduct by the Football Association for using the term ‘black’ in an Instagram post.
