Manchester City attorneys are eager to appeal the club’s two-year ban on the Champions League, according to The Mirror.
City expected its case to be heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) this month, however, the coronavirus has delayed the date set for the appeal.
They are now unlikely to receive a ruling until July at the earliest, however the date could be mentioned if CAS agrees.
“Our appeal has been fully prepared and all we are waiting for is a date to be set,” a City source told the Mirror.
“We have been putting together our case for over a year because UEFA’s position made it clear how this situation was going to unfold.”
UEFA punished City for violating financial fair play regulations in February, pending the appeal.
The current Premier League champions were fined £ 25 million and a two-year suspension from UEFA competitions.
Kevin De Bruyne recently admitted that he might have to rethink his future at Manchester City if they fail his appeal. The 28-year-old is considered the City’s top player and a vital part of the club’s plans with three years still on his contract.
Meanwhile, a handful of Premier League clubs that have been fighting for a place near the top of the table will be watching the outcome of the appeal with interest.
Many teams, including Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham, still had a shot at qualifying for the Champions League when the season was suspended, and they may be waiting for an additional slot to open.
The Mirror reports that “several of the best Premier League clubs have written to CAS to express their interest in the case.”
