Denu police arrested Mr. Gali Golo, a 38-year-old fisherman, for allegedly beating his wife, Madame Beatrice Logosu, 34, to death.
His arrest followed information obtained by the District Police Command that the suspect beat his spouse to death on suspicion of infidelity and secretly sent the body to the morgue.
This leads to at least three reported cases of men allegedly beating their partners to death in the Volta region in March alone, following two similar reports from Ho earlier.
ASP Joseph Nakoja, Denu District Police Commander, in an interview with the Ghana news agency, revealed that the command had started investigations into the matter to take appropriate action.
“On March 28, 2021 at 08:00 hours, we received information that the suspect Gali Golo, who lives in Akame, had beaten his wife, Beatrice Logosu, to death the night before, on March 27, and he had secretly sent the body for preservation to the Hosanna Clinic morgue in Agbozume.
We went in and retrieved the body that had been embalmed. There were bruises on the body with blood gushing from a broken jaw. In addition, the victim’s neck appeared to be broken, suggesting a possible strangulation. For now the body remains in the same morgue for more actions ”.
“We visited the couple’s home and learned from the neighbors that the suspect started the assault on the victim around noon on March 27 for alleged infidelity and threatened to kill all those who condemned his behavior. Neighbors said the couple carried the fight late into the night only for them to find out the next morning that the victim had died, ”said the Commander.
ASP Nakoja revealed that the Command had sent an invitation to the morgue manager at the Hosanna Clinic, while attempts were being made to contact the victim’s family and the alleged suspect to assist in further investigations.
Sergeant Prince Dogbatse, Public Relations Officer for the Volta Regional Police, called on the public to report abusive marital relationships to the police or Church leadership to reduce the increase in recent cases of deaths resulting from these relationships.
He pleaded with the churches and counselors to undertake a tireless crusade to quell these deaths of husbands.
Just a week earlier, Philip Caesar Kumah allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Elizabeth Yesutor Akpalu, resulting in his later death at Ho University Hospital.
