Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has questioned former President John Mahama’s developmental record in the Upper East region during his eight years as president, especially his four years as president.
Addressing a durbar of Mirigu chiefs and people in the Chiana Paga constituency during the first day of his tour of the Upper East region, Dr. Bawumia said that former President Mahama took advantage of the people of the north and challenged him to name a single development project that his government undertook in the Upper East region under the failed initiative of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).
“The people of the Upper East, I know you will remember that in 2008, former President Mahama came to this region and to the north and told us that we should vote for him because he was our brother from the north. That we should vote for him because he was our brother from the north, ”Dr. Bawumia recalled.
“He took office for eight years as vice president and president. Can the Upper East tell us what exactly John Mahama did for the Upper East Region for eight years?
“What legacy did John Mahama leave in the Upper East region after eight years?” I ask.
“The firm’s development program for the northern region was SADA. Upper East Region, what are the projects that SADA left behind? Can you point to any projects after $ 100 million? Where are the projects? Of course we know about the guinea fowls that flew to Burkina Faso. “
Dr. Bawumia expressed his disgust at the way the Mahama administration misused $ 100 million at the expense of alleviating poverty in the north, as well as the development of the northern part of the country.
“They didn’t do any projects, they spent the money. You have money to help your people, to eliminate the poverty of your people and you get involved in guinea fowl projects that fly to Burkina Faso ”.
Akufo-Addo’s commitment to the development of the north
The vice president further noted that, unlike former president Mahama, who spent $ 100 million under the pretext of developing the north, but actually neglected the development of the northern regions, President Akufo-Addo has demonstrated his commitment to the Northern development with several projects visible in the Northern Regions, and in the Upper East in particular.
“The vision of Akufo-Addo is a different vision. With Akufo-Addo, you have your other brother, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as vice president and we are delivering. “
“So far, in Upper East alone, we are carrying out 1,488 projects and have completed 688 projects in 4 years. We have started the biggest investment in northern Ghana since independence, which is the Pwalugu Dam. “
“In addition to infrastructure, the nuclear power plant has introduced planting for food and employment to boost agriculture, a district a factory, a village a dam, a constituency an ambulance, NABCO, restoration of teacher training allowances and nurses, free upper secondary education that has positively impacted the lives of the people of the Upper East region. Does the NDC under John Mahama have comparable policies during his 8 years in office? “
“In John Mahama’s eight years, not a single road was completed in the entire Upper East region. In eight years, they did not complete a path. Today, we have practically finished the Bolga-Bawku highway, among others, in less than four years ”.
Mahama’s monumental failure
Having exposed what he described as Mahama’s “monumental” failure to develop the Upper East region, Dr. Bawumia wondered how the former president has the guts to ask the people of the Upper East Region to vote for him again. .
“Is this the same John Mahama who wants to be president of this country again after the poor development record of the Upper East region?”
“His record was a monumental development failure. And that’s why we don’t want a refund; we are already taking a step forward with Nana Akufo-Addo ”.
“Let’s move on; we don’t want to go back. So if you vote for number one, take a step forward; number two is two steps back.
“Nana Akufo Addo has shown without question that the Upper East has seen and will see further development under her leadership.”
