Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern for the current generation of young Africans saying that they may rebel against their leaders if jobs are not created.
According to him, young people have seen their opportunities diminish and, therefore, they will rise up against authority to seek better ways of survival.
“Today’s generation, that’s what we’ve been warning about. We have an increase of young people, our population is very young 35 years old and less than 60% and we have always said that it is an advantage in terms of having a young and strong workforce, but it is also a disadvantage if we cannot find employment so quickly . . And then young people see that their opportunities are diminishing, ”he told Accra-based TV3, monitored by MyNewsGh.com.
The former president also took the opportunity to call on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to urgently also review developments in Côte d’Ivoire to prevent them from turning into something big.
He said: “The President dealt with the situation in Mali. It should also be very sensitive to what is happening not only in Nigeria but also in the Ivory Coast. “
Adding that “We keep saying that the unrest that is taking place, ECOWAS must be proactive and must begin to envision what interventions need to be made to bring peace to those countries.”
