The deputy campaign manager of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), Dr. Abdul Mustapha Hamid, says that former president John Dramani Mahama and standard-bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is keen to incite Northerners against the Akans, particularly the Ashantis and Akyems. .
According to him, Mr. Mahama’s use of “Akyem Sakawa boys” to describe some people in the Agyapa royalty agreement was intended to create some hatred towards the Akyem.
He said former President Mahama deliberately uses tribal politics to lure no Akan against Akan-speaking people in Ghana and wondered what the Akan could have done to Mahama to deserve such hate speech from him.
Dr. Hamid, who is a Northerner, said that while non-Akan could become MPs in Akan areas, Akan, on the other hand, could not become MP in non-Akan communities, especially in the northern and Volta regions.
He cited many non-Akans who have become MPs in non-Akans communities, saying that Akans do not hate non-Akans and therefore Mahama’s use of ‘Akyem Sakawa boys’ was malicious.
Dr. Hamid, who addressed a press conference at the PNP on Monday afternoon, [September 7, 2020], said that if anyone deserved the term ‘Sakawa Boys’ it is Mr. Mahama who, after losing the 2016 elections, decided to cede the country’s bauxite resources to his younger brother.
He said that government intervention that brought the matter to the Supreme Court was necessary to recover bauxite resources from the country of Mahama’s younger brother.
He said Mahama gave the bauxite to his younger brother just three months before leaving the office.
Dr Hamid, also minister of Inner City and Zongo Development, said that Mahama had nothing to offer Ghanaians, so he got involved in such tribal politics.
