Abraham Osei Aidoo, former Parliament Majority Leader, says former President John Dramani Mahama is capitalizing on people’s vulnerability to make promises they cannot keep.
Aidoo, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said that the Democratic National Congress standard-bearer had nothing good for Ghanaians as he was only embarking on a promising spree to entice the vulnerable to vote for him in the elections of December 7, 2020..
He said, for example, that even though Mr. Mahama knew that the cleanup of the banking sector was done in the best interest of the country and, to save the sector, he took advantage of it to deceive those affected by the exercise.
“Until now, all the things that he (Mahama) has been promising are things that the NDC traditionally has not done and, in some cases, things that his own government had worked against when he was in power. Take, for example, the legalization of Okada ”.
“Why did the NDC standard-bearer enact the legislation against the use of motorcycles for commercial purposes (okada), and the same person now promised to legalize it if he was returned to power?
“The question is if Mr. Mahama’s government had sponsored the law that banned okada, why is it now promising to legalize it when he is elected again? Does he see things differently when he is in power?” he asked, adding that “this is what I mean when I say you are being dishonest.”
Mr. Aidoo, also a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (PNP), compared the behavior of the NDC flag bearer to that of the proverbial vulture who only remembered the need for shelter during the rains.
He challenged the former president to tell Ghanaians what funds he would use to implement his promise of free primary health care and questioned what happened to the one-time payment of the National Health Insurance Plan (NHIS) premium that he promised before being elected president. .
The former Majority Leader called on Ghanaians to reject the empty promises of the opposition standard-bearer NDC by voting en masse to keep President Akufo-Addo in power, as his achievements attest to his quality.
“It is common knowledge that Akufo-Addo is the best we have had in the Fourth Republic and Mahama is the worst we have had,” he said, adding that the Free SHS program initiated by the current government would cement the name of President Akufo- Addo. in Ghana’s history as the best leader so far.
“In 2004, I traveled with a parliamentary delegation to Kenya, where I saw free education for the first time on the African continent. They had serious challenges and I never dreamed that we could achieve that in Ghana. But Akufo-Addo came and told us that it was possible and today we are living the dream, ”he said.
According to him, Mahama was the only president of the fourth republic who did not have a legacy, and said that former President Rawlings and Kufuor respectively led Ghana to democracy and introduced the NHIS and stabilized the economy, while President Akufo-Addo gave Ghanaians Free SHS and many more.
Mr. Aidoo added that the president and presidential candidate of the PNP, in his first term had brought development in all sectors, highlighting that, “in agriculture, we are having crops for food and jobs, in employment there is the Nation Builders Corps, in education , there is free SHS and so on ”.
