The female wing of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP), Loyal Ladies, described former president John Mahama’s attacks on the coronavirus pandemic government as irresponsible.

According to the Loyal Ladies in a statement, it is unacceptable that Mahama seeks to gain political capital in the pandemic.

The Loyal Ladies made this known in a statement signed by eight of them, including Ellen Ama Daaku, Florence Boatema, Ahmed Sherifa Tiyumba, Doris Dzifa Kaledzi, Lawrencia Entsuah, Cindy B. Mwinlakpeng, Salomey Asiedu, Yayra Agbeehia.

According to them, the coronavirus pandemic is a global health crisis that, in living memory, is unprecedented.

Throughout the world, according to the statement, it has put governments in the rear, until now it has never had to face a pandemic of such virulence.

“Therefore, it is uncomfortable for any decorative figure of the opposition, much less a previous president, to make political capital of a catastrophe that has not freed any nation in its malevolence, claiming thousands of lives.”

“The behavior of former President John Mahama has been nothing but irresponsible.”

“This does not mean that constructive criticism is not welcome. Any government should be given ideas on how to better manage affairs, for now and the future. ”

“However, there is a marked difference between constructive criticism and playing a political soccer game for electoral gain, especially when a former president preaches that game about exaggeration, lies, and the assertion of the obvious.”

“When all stakeholders, traditional, religious, political and civil society leaders, have joined the government in an effort to combat the coronavirus, John Mahama seeks to make political capital by accusing the government of” failing the people of Ghana. ” This accusation is laughable as much as it is false. It would be good to examine the facts.

Ghana, on a per capita basis, is recognized to have implemented the most comprehensive testing regimen in Africa, they said.

Of around 120,000 people tracked, Ghana has been able to evaluate 100,000 people, they said in the statement.

It should be noted that, consistently, during the trial period, positive tests have remained stable and the death rate has been relatively small, according to them.

As of May 10, some 4,263 people had tested positive, 378 recovered and 18 had died.

“Most of those we sadly lost to this insidious virus had underlying health problems.”

Data collected as a result of the hard work of health professionals and medical experts indicates that the virus’ footprints have been felt primarily at the two urban hotspots of Accra and Kumasi, they said.

“Therefore, the government can identify the virus’s geographic footprints and focus testing where it is needed, thus being strategic with limited deployment and allocation of resources. This also provides the government with enough information to implement measures to stop the spread of COVID-19, “they say.

Along with this, the use of masks is actively promoted and, most importantly, so are the basic sanitation measures that we can all take. Therefore, when Mr. John Mahama states that he wants “to encourage him, once again, to protect himself. It is imperative to wash your hands regularly with soap and water under running water,” he says, both obvious and condescending Ghanaians. A man of his supposed stature should add something more insightful to the general public discourse. ”

But it is evident that he lacks the capacity or the will to do it. For him, each statement is formulated to obtain the maximum political advantage, which is evident in its lack of integrity. ”

“He has ignored the facts, he only seeks to pontificate without offering anything constructive. He did not achieve anything as president and it is evident that he has not achieved anything in the opposition either. ”

“We have warned former President John Mahama to emulate the statesman status of former leaders like H.E. John Agyekum Kuffour and put an end to the irresponsible spectacle to which he is subjecting the Ghanaians,” they said in the May 10, 2020 statement.
