The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. John Dramani Mahama, celebrated his 62nd birthday in Tamale yesterday, in which he expressed his willingness to accept the result of the December elections.
“I wish all Ghanaians the best and I feel blessed to be alive and in great health at 62 years old. I wish everyone a long and healthy life as we await a peaceful election. God’s will must prevail in whoever He chooses to lead this nation for the next four years. It should let the person prevail in the elections, ”he said.
The former president, who is seeking reelection in the upcoming elections on December 7, after losing the presidency to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2016, also wished the electorate peaceful elections.
Event
Former President Mahama spoke in the children’s room at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), where he cut a birthday cake and interacted with patients and staff as part of activities to mark his 62nd birthday.
Mr. Mahama, accompanied by his wife, Ms. Lordina Mahama, also visited the Nyohini Children’s Home in the metropolis of Tamale, where he donated bags of rice and groceries to support the maintenance of the children.
He explained that the reason for his decision to donate to the house was to share the joy of his birthday with the beneficiaries.
“This birthday has come at a time when we are hot in the campaign and that is why I decided to take some time off to come here with my wife, Lordina, to share the joy of my birthday with the children and continue the campaign,” added.
He promised TTH management that an upcoming NDC government would put more resources into expanding the facilities at the hospital.
Surveillance
In a related development, Mahama has urged NDC polling station officials to be vigilant on Election Day to ensure transparency at polling stations.
He spoke during a courtesy visit to Nanung’s regent in the traditional Nanumba area, Nyeliboligu-Naa Yakubu Andani Dasana II, at his palace in Bimbilla in the northern region last Friday.
Mahama also pledged his commitment to peaceful elections and assured the people and the international community of the party’s desire for a transparent electoral process.
Regarding the development of Nanung, he said that the previous NDC government started a number of projects in the area, but said they had all been abandoned by the current government.
He mentioned some of the projects such as the expansion of electrical energy, the expansion of the Bimbilla water system and the Corredor Este highway.
It further stated that the four years of the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had been characterized by difficulties, lack of development projects and unemployment.
Therefore, he appealed to voters to restore power to the NDC to continue its people-centered projects to improve their lives.
“It is my hope and prayer that the people of this area will support the NDC and vote for it to continue its good works,” he added.
