Luis Suárez has delivered his verdict on Edinson Cavani when his teammate from Uruguay joins Manchester United in this transfer window.

The 33-year-old signed with the Red Devils to a one-year contract, with an option for another season, on the deadline.

It follows his departure from Paris St-Germain after his contract expired in the summer.

After seven years at the Parc des Princes, he ended his time at the club as the top scorer in its history.

United made a move for the veteran forward after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made offensive signings a priority.

He has adopted the famous number 7 jersey, following in the footsteps of legends such as Cristiano Ronaldo, George Best and David Beckham.

Cavani has signed for United

However, the former Napoli star hasn’t played soccer since March after France canceled the season amid the coronavirus crisis.

He has seen Cavani fall from the Uruguay squad, which will face Chile and Ecuador over the next week.

And Suarez has revealed that his omission is a huge loss, but admitted that the change of his attacking partner to United can only be good for the country.

Manchester United are looking to chart their way back to the top. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already signed Donny van de Beek, but Jadon Sancho remains Manchester United’s number one target.

“The absence of an important player like Cavani will always be felt,” he said.

“But we have to be aware that we have players who are at a very good level in Europe.

“I’m sure they will show the coach that they are ready.”

Cavani and Suárez have formed a deadly partnership for Uruguay

Cavani and Suárez are one of the deadliest associations in South America: they scored 109 goals for their country between them.

Meanwhile, the former PSG has revealed how a chat with Solskjaer convinced him to join the Red Devils.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “Manchester United are one of the best clubs in the world, so it is a real honor to be here.

“I have worked very hard during my free time. I am looking forward to competing and representing this incredible club.

“I have played in front of some of the most passionate football fans in my career and I know it will be the same in Manchester.

“I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere of Old Trafford, when it’s safe for the fans to come back.

“I hope to continue writing my little story in the soccer book.

“My approach has to remain the same as ever: work, work, work. I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.”
