Luis Suárez has reached an agreement with Barcelona to leave the club and appears ready to join Atlético de Madrid, according to reports.

Suárez had agreed personal terms with La Liga rivals Barcelona, but was struggling to come to terms with his current club in order to leave.

He originally seemed willing to move to Juventus, but the deal was broken when Barcelona initially refused to pay the Uruguayan international to leave the club, and the Italian giants were unable to meet their full salary demands.

But, according to Goal, he has now reached an agreement with the Catalan giants that they will pay him to terminate his contract a year earlier.

An agreement was reached after lengthy talks between Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and Suárez’s representatives, and he is now expected to put in writing an £ 8 million a year contract with Diego Simeone’s Atlético.

He will travel to Madrid for a medical exam and could be in line to debut in his first La Liga game against Granada.

Bartomeu was initially against the idea of Suárez joining one of Barcelona’s main La Liga rivals, but has softened his stance.

Suárez, who scored 198 goals with the Barcelona shirt, was told that it was not in Ronald Koeman’s plans, and the new Barça coach was looking to leave his own stamp on the side.

Juventus seemed the most likely destination, but the deal was canceled and now there are doubts as to whether the The forward cheated on his Italian citizenship test.

Instead, Juve has signed Álvaro Morata, a former Chelsea striker, on loan from Atlético de Madrid.

It will be loaned for an initial period of 12 months, with the option to add a second year to the loan and the ability to purchase it for £ 40 million.
