Some of the beneficiary players
Five hundred footballers from Ghana’s elite league have received their monthly stipend of GH ₵ 500 from the Youth Employment Agency (YEA).
This is the first of the monthly stipends they are expected to receive over a six-month period as a form of mitigation against the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.
It should be remembered that the National Sports Authority (NSA) in collaboration with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to protect the players of the women’s league from the impact of COVID-19.
According to the MoU, 500 female league players were expected to receive GH GH 500 each month with the stimulus package, while another 500 athletes from several other lesser-known sports are also expected to benefit from a similar package.
However, this has been accomplished according to the communications office of the local soccer governing body.
In total, the YEA is expected to invest ₵ 3,000,000 in the stimulus package for the 1,000 beneficiaries over the six-month period.
