Egypt and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will have to isolate himself after returning a second positive test for coronavirus.
Mohamed Salah has returned a second positive test for coronavirus, confirming that Liverpool’s talisman will have to go through a period of isolation.
Salah leaves for Egypt and Liverpool
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) revealed on Friday that Salah tested positive for COVID-19, although it later added that further tests would be conducted.
However, there has been no reprieve for the 28-year-old star, who returned a positive result.
Therefore, Salah will miss Egypt’s next double game with Togo, while unable to appear for Liverpool in their Premier League clash with Leicester City November 25.
His availability for the Champions League match with Atalanta on November 28 is also in doubt.
“The Egyptian team and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah underwent a second test, and the results confirmed that Salah tested positive for covid-19,” said a statement released by the EFA.
“Salah maintains a great spirit and does not show any symptoms of the virus.”
The EFA also confirmed that they are working closely with Liverpool’s medical staff.
Salah has been in sensational form to defend the Red champions this season, score 10 goals in all competitions and create more chances than any other player in the Premier League.
An incorrect test adds to Liverpool’s problems
So far it has been a costly international hiatus for Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, who will be without Joe Gomez for a significant part of the campaign after the center-back suffered a knee injury while on duty for England, while that Trent Alexander-Arnold suffered a calf problem in a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Reds’ last game.
Gomez underwent a successful surgery Thursday, and on Friday he issued a message of appreciation for the support he has received.
“The road to recovery has already begun”, Gomez wrote in a post on his official social media accounts.
“I’ve been here before, I know what it takes and I’ll come back stronger than ever. I’m obviously shattered, but this is part of the gods. [sic] plan and I think everything happens for a reason.
“I would like to thank everyone for your good wishes and messages of support. I am focused on my recovery and supporting my teammates in whatever way I can.”
