With January only a few days away, Liverpool will have to decide whether to stay or change with their current team.
The Reds are still keen to retain their Premier League crown, but injuries threaten to crush their ambitions.
Midfield options have long been his problem and Joel Matip could be out again.
That leaves Jurgen Klopp with a decision to make regarding his defensive line as he considers solutions through the transfer market.
The Reds are also waiting for a word from Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum, whose contract ends in the summer.
Here are the latest transfer rumors from Anfield.
Wijnaldum contract call
Georginio Wijnaldum has asked Liverpool for more time as he reflects on his latest contract offer.
The Dutchman’s contract at Anfield runs out in the summer and he could look for new pasture.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to retain the 30-year-old he signed from Newcastle in 2016.
Liverpool’s latest offer came in early December, but Wijnaldum wants a bit more time to make a decision.
He has promised the club that he will inform them of his decision before beginning to speak with other clubs, if that is the conclusion he reaches.
Jan Carra’s plea
Jamie Carragher has again urged the Reds to dive into the transfer market after Joel Matip was injured in a tie with West Brom.
The Cameroonian international is prone to injury and now leaves Fabinho, Nathaniel Phillips and Rhys Williams as options for the central half.
January is just around the corner and Klopp could make welcome additions.
Carragher said: “Joel Matip will not play every game from now until the end of the season, you know that even before today’s injury.
“That is why it is essential that Liverpool sign someone in January.
“I said it as soon as Virgil van Dijk got injured against Everton.
“Fabinho has gone there and he looked like a top center back in that position, so maybe the people at the club felt that the need was not so urgent.”
Reds remain in Alaba’s career
Liverpool remain one of several clubs following David Alaba ahead of a possible summer move.
The Bayern Munich defender is not signing a new contract but will not be sold in January.
He makes him a free agent for the summer and several Premier League clubs are interested in his services.
Both Manchester clubs are interested, but Alaba’s preferred destination has always been Spain with closely linked Real Madrid, Athletic reports.
