Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah tested positive for coronavirus.

This was confirmed by the Egyptian Football Association in a statement on its website on Friday.

He contracted the virus while on international service and had been isolated.

The statement was titled ‘Mohamed Salah infected with Coronavirus’.

The statement read: “The medical swab performed on our national soccer team showed that our player, Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool star, is infected with coronavirus after his test came back positive, although he does not show any symptoms, while the rest of team members tested negative, ”the statement said.

He added that Liverpool have been contacted and informed of the evolution, “in addition to isolating him (Salah) inside his room and also isolating all contacts.”

Egypt, the seven-time champion of Africa, drew its first two matches in Group G and finished third in a section that also includes Kenya and the Comoros, and which were expected to dominate.

Both matches against Togo will be played behind closed doors due to COCID-19, the first in Cairo on Saturday and the second leg in Lomé on Tuesday.
