Wilder responses to Klopp’s comments

Chris Wilder has defended himself as he continued his war of words with Jurgen Klopp.

Earlier this week, the Sheffield United manager accused Klopp of being selfish for his desire to see five substitutes reintroduced into the Premier League, labeling the Liverpool manager a ‘world-class politician’ for his argument that it would benefit to all.

This led Klopp to comment that the Blades have ‘three substitutions and one point’ in a heated exchange with BT Sport’s Des Kelly after the Reds’ draw with Brighton on Saturday.

When asked about Klopp’s comments after his team’s loss to West Brom last night, Wilder said he had the right to defend his own club.

He said:

“I’m not going to talk about it at this particular time. I imagine you can understand my point of view on this, so maybe it’s for another time.

“Today we talk about the result of today and, as Jurgen said, a good observation, we are still at that point, as he pointed out.

“Everyone has the right to do that (to defend the opinion of their own club). There are 20 votes in this league and everyone takes care of themselves until the end.

“Nobody is taking care of Sheffield United in the right way now, so we have to take care of ourselves. I’m not really going to go into the practical details of what was said.

“I have great respect for Liverpool Football Club, as I always have. I also have great respect for Jurgen.

“Whether it’s taking care of the football club, whether it’s selfish or another word. By the way, there are also a few other managers who have taken care of their own club. I will always take care of Sheffield United. “
