The former Reds forward sees those at Anfield who have taken on the mantle of being the side to catch when it comes to supremacy in the Premier League.
Liverpool has surpassed Manchester City as “the dominant force” in the Premier League, says Emile Heskey, with Jurgen Klopp’s side considered as “standard bearer.”
The Reds are still waiting for a first piece of national silverware since 2012.
However, they have savored the successes of the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup over the past 12 months.
Those at Anfield have also opened a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, having fallen terribly short on a title search during the 2018-19 campaign.
Once the green light is given for competitive action to resume in England, the Reds will require just two wins to end a 30-year wait for world-class glory.
Whatever happens, Heskey believes that Liverpool has become the team to beat it forward, with every reason to believe that Klopp can oversee another era of trophy collecting.
The former red striker said Mirror: “Liverpool has slowly reached the point where they are now a kind of dominant force. Now they are the standard bearers.”
“It was Manchester City for a while, but now Liverpool has taken on that mantle.”
“But with their line of progress aging a year, can they continue to do so at that level? That is the question.
“And then your recruiting must also be special. You have to bring the players who are really going to make a difference when they get close, players who can start running.
“Manchester City was right in that regard, but Liverpool is also doing it slowly.”
Liverpool has found great value in the transfer market in recent years, acquiring characters like Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, while local talent has had a chance to shine.
Heskey hopes that approach will serve the Reds well, with only minor tweaks necessary to keep a star-studded squad hungry for more honors.
He added: “If you look at some of the youth players they have, it’s time to shine.
“They’ve seen it with Trent, which is basically the plan for that. I don’t see why the others can’t.”

“Probably the team is missing one or two players, but overall it is practically ready.”
“Age wise, they’re not that bad for next year or so.
“But you will want to bring in a couple of younger players to cool off and challenge some of the established players.”
