Liverpool are reportedly ‘insulted’ by suggestions that their fans will break the rules of social alienation to celebrate their long-awaited Premier League title when the season resumes next month.
There have been fears, most prominently expressed by city mayor Joe Anderson, that “thousands of people” will flock outside Anfield when the title is confirmed.
Jurgen Klopp’s team requires just six more points with nine games remaining to end the club’s 30-year wait for the 19th league title.
Premier League leaders have brought down those who see Anfield as an example of possible mass problems, according to The Mirror.

Anderson, a lifelong fan of Everton, added: “I think the best thing to do is to end the season.”
But the club responded strongly to his suggestion, responding: ‘We are disappointed by (Mayor) Joe Anderson’s comments, (there is) a lack of evidence to back up his claims.
Supporters have (expressed) their determination to respect social distancing measures. Should the resumption of football be announced, we would continue to work with them and other key stakeholders to maintain our collective desire to achieve this crucial goal. ”
