Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has given his reaction when international teammate Donny van de Beek looks set to move to Manchester United.
The Old Trafford club is reportedly closing in on signing the Ajax midfielder after the two clubs agreed on a fee in the region of £ 40 million.
According to recent reports, United has reaffirmed its interest, although the medical and personal terms have yet to be finalized.
It has been suggested that Van de Beek will sign a five-year contract, which should allow him to be available for United’s opening game of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
And at a press conference while on international duty with the Netherlands, the Liverpool defender was asked if he was trying to convince his teammate not to join the Reds’ fierce rivals.
“Did I try to change your mind? [about joining United]? No, “he said with a smile at the press conference.
But Van Dijk has backed his international teammate to success in the Premier League and has also wished Nathan Ake the best after he completed his move to Manchester City earlier this month.
He continued: “If it happens [Van de Beek to United] – and it seems so – then I give it to you with all my heart.
“Great for him, great for Dutch football, for the Dutch national team and another great club for a player from Oranje.
