Match preview
The Ghana Black Satellites will seek a fourth title when they face Uganda in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations final at the Olympic Stadium in Nouakchott on Saturday 6 March.
Ghana is the favorite heading into the match against the Uganda Hippos team making their first appearance in the competition and also looking to make history.
The Black Satellites managed a 1-0 victory over Gambia in the semifinal thanks to a free kick from Precious Boah in the 33rd minute to reserve a place in the final. Boah was declared Man of the Match after the game.
Uganda showed a masterclass against North African team Tunisia when they beat them to the final with a 4-1 victory.
Derrick Kakooza, the star man of the show in the semifinal, scored a hattrick and also won the Man of the Match award.
Speaking at the pre-match conference, Ghana’s coach Abdul Karim Zito said that they are not going to underestimate the Ugandan team in this last match.
“The fact that we have won this title before is in the past. Now we have to look at the present. We are looking forward to winning this Cup and the main reason is that the people of Ghana trusted us and sent us here and it would only be appropriate if We give them a gift especially on the day that Ghana is celebrating its birthday.
“In Africa now, there are no big names and no small names. Every country is improving and we know that Uganda will be a difficult opponent. They beat Tunisia 4-1 and it was not luck. They played well and we will not underestimate them.” .
Uganda coach Morley Byekwaso anticipates a tough game against the Black Satellites in the final.
Speaking at the pre-match conference, he said: “It will be a difficult match because we will play against a strong and tactical team with a lot of experience in this tournament, but we are ready to play. We have nothing to lose and I just need to play well, whoever plays well. it will take the day. “
“We need to have a lot of tactical discipline because we know how strong and physical they are and how good they are with the ball. If we read the opponent well and prepare well for him, I know we will achieve it.”
The Black Satellites won the title in 1993, 1999 and 2009 and Uganda will be looking for a first trophy at this level.
