Lionel Messi’s true feelings about Liverpool come to light at the FIFA Best awards

Lionel Messi is clearly not a Liverpool fan, that’s if you rely on his voting choices at the FIFA Best awards.

The Argentine was beaten to the individual gong by Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich.

The Pole was the advice of many people for the Ballon d’Or before he was eliminated earlier this year.

But Liverpool’s impressive year meant they had a huge crowd for the awards, both in the player and coach category.

The Reds claimed their first Premier League title by reaching first place losing just two points in their first 27 games.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all played leading roles and were among the nominees for the award.

Lionel Messi did not vote for anyone associated with Liverpool

Thiago, who has moved to the Reds after his triple success at Bayern, was also in the race.

Goalkeeper Alisson, a man hailed for his influence since moving to Anfield in 2018, was the fifth Liverpool player to be nominated.

Messi, however, had no interest in voting for any of the quintets.

Instead, his highest vote went to PSG’s Neymar, a man he played with for four years at Barcelona.

The couple is believed to have a very healthy relationship and have talked about one day living again.

Kylian Mbappé and Lewandowski were Messi’s other selections.

The Argentine lost 4-0 on his last visit to Anfield

His snub of Cristiano Ronaldo came as a surprise with the Juventus star voting for Messi in third place.

The Barcelona star also had no interest in voting for Jurgen Klopp as best coach, although the German did win the award.

Messi by no means has a dark past with the Reds that he rarely met during his career.

The 33-year-old scored two goals against them in a first leg of the Champions League in 2019.

But their efforts were thwarted by Liverpool’s famous 4-0 comeback at Anfield en route to lifting the trophy.
