Lionel Messi and Xavi included in the “Golden Ball Dream Team”

Lionel Messi has been selected as the best right-back of all time, while Xavi has been voted the best defensive midfielder in history (along with Lothar Matthäus), by the France Football magazine’s Ballon d’Or panel.

The couple went through the Barcelona quarry and won many titles with the club. Xavi is now a coach, while Messi, of course, continues to play for the Catalans.

Eleven players were selected to form the “Dream Team”, which represents the best players in history in a 3-4-3 formation, selected by a panel of 140 experts.

In addition, two legends who played for Barcelona but did not spend most of their careers there were selected: Diego Maradona and Ronaldo Nazário.

Sergio Busquets was the only other active Barcelona player to be nominated, besides Messi. Additionally, current coach Ronald Koeman was nominated as a defender.

Former Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard was nominated as a midfielder as well, although he never played for the Blaugrana.
