Liberian police have said a man drowned after jumping into a river in the capital Monrovia to retrieve a $ 20 bill he had dropped.
Tamba Lamine, according to eyewitnesses, was walking with a friend over a bridge when the bill fell.
He reportedly jumped off the bridge into the river and successfully located the note that he showed to onlookers.
However, police spokesman Moses Carter told the media that the street vendor drowned shortly after that.
His body has yet to be recovered according to Carter, who said the victim drowned in the Mesuradu River.

The Mesuradu River runs between mainland Monrovia and the Bushrod Island industrial district.
Mr. Carter revealed that Lamine was forced to jump into the river to get the money back in order to give his friend his “cut” of $ 5.
Liberia allows the US dollar to trade alongside the Liberian dollar.
However, the US dollar is much stronger than the local currency, which continues to depreciate, making it valuable to citizens.
