Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew has challenged his teammates to keep working hard to achieve their desired results as Ghana prepares to face Sudan in the second leg of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday ( AFCON).

The Swansea player scored a double yesterday to deliver Ghana’s vital three points at Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

As Ghana mourned the loss of former president Jerry John Rawlings, Ayew revealed that although the players were heartbroken after hearing the news, they maintained their composure, doing their best to beat Sudan 2-0 at home.

In a post-match conference, he said: “I am grateful to all my teammates for being here and helping us get all three points at home. You know it wasn’t the best of football, but like the coach said, in a difficult circumstance, we managed to stay tight, keep a clean sheet and score two goals, so I’m very happy with what we produced today.

“As we always say, in football it’s not about who scored, it’s the three points that matter, as we needed to have one foot in Cameroon and that’s done today. Now we are going to prepare for Tuesday.

“I would like to congratulate the players. Some of them are new, for others it was their first time playing on African ground at home, so congratulations to all. Let’s keep working to get the best results. “

Ghana leads Group C with nine points after three matches ahead of South Africa, Sao Tome, Principe and Sudan and would travel to Sudan for the second leg before heading to their various clubs.
