Some beachfront hotels in Sakumono in the Greater Accra region are requesting the Ghana Police Service to allow them to operate their walk-in restaurant services during the Easter festivities.

Following the regional minister’s directive to ensure strict compliance with the COVID-19 protocols, several members of the security staff have been deployed to some Accra beaches, with the installation of huge barriers along the beaches to prevent the people frequent the place.

This, in turn, has negatively affected hotels, as their workers and potential clients are now unable to access their facilities.

In an interview with Citi NewsAbeiku Davis, manager of the Serenity Beach Hotel, one of the affected hotels, asked that they be allowed to operate to maintain their operations.

“Whatever it is, at least they have to listen to us and know that it’s not a lockdown or some kind of curfew or something. They (the government) said that people should not hang out on the beaches and even open-air buses are supposed to make sure they abide by the protocols. ”

“When at any time that we are working, we make sure that we are complying with the protocols, and we do not go beyond what we respect the law, but we cannot see each other from now until Monday that we cannot work while we have made a total investment , and we are running at a loss, “he said.

Police warning

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service had reminded the public to comply with COVID-19 restrictions to stop the spread of the virus.

The Police Service in a statement indicated that although churches and mosques can hold services no later than two hours, public meetings such as conventions, crusades, pilgrimages cannot be held during the season.

“Churches, mosques and religious bodies are expected to hold services no more than two hours for a maximum of 100 participants only, observing all other COVID-19 protocols. Conventions, crusades, pilgrimages and such large physical gatherings are not allowed. ”

He also said that the holding of any carnival, festival, beach gathering, street dance, procession, parade, and similar event will be illegal.

“The opening of nightclubs, as well as cinemas and movie theaters, is prohibited. All “locked room” bar or pub activities, including those in hotels, remain illegal. However, outdoor drinking venues can operate as long as they comply with all other COVID-19 protocols, “he added.
