Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Biafra Indigenous People, IPOB, criticized on Wednesday the Army’s claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State invited them to the Lekki toll gate amid the protest over the end of the SARS.
Kanu claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the soldiers to kill the protesters, not Sanwo-Olu.
Recall that last week, armed men dressed in military uniform stormed the Lekki tollbooth and fired at peaceful protesters.
Gunmen had killed some of the protesters during the crisis.
But after the backlash, the 81st Division of the Nigerian Army admitted that its soldiers were present at the protest site but did not kill anyone.
The division also revealed that they broke into the Lekki tollbooth on the orders of Sanwo-Olu.
However, the IPOB leader described the Army’s claim as false.
In a tweet, Kanu insisted that the governor was not the head of the Army.
He tweeted: “No one should believe @ HQNigerianArmy’s claim that it was @jidesanwoolu who ordered the soldiers to be brought to #Lekki.
“It is a blatant lie. Since when did governors become army commanders? #LekkiMassacre was ordered by President Doe @NGRP and executed by a Doe Army ”.
