Legon Cities FC communications director Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang has rejected reports suggesting that his team paid more than $ 1 million for Asamoah Gyan’s services.
Gyan, 34, completed a move to the Ghana Premier League on the local transfer deadline day ahead of the new football season.
In the media space, one million dollars has been quoted as the amount paid by Legon Cities for the signing of the services of the former Sunderland forward and Kayserispor.
But in an interview, Kwame Dwomoh Agyemang said that the contract between the two parties is based on performance.
He stressed that the agreement could be extended for another year if Gyan complies with certain clauses embodied in the contract.
“Gyan will play for us this season and if things go well there is a chance that he will stay with us for one more season. Gyan’s contract is structured, we’ve seen a lot of things in the media but that’s not the case, “he told Accra. Vision 1 FM.
“We cannot reveal how much it is going to take, even Europeans don’t do that. What we usually hear is speculation from the media. There is no club that discloses the salary of a player because it is confidential.
“What I can say is that he signed a performance-based contract,” he said.
Gyan had no club after leaving the Indian Super League, NorthEast United FC in January this year.
He is expected to use his experience to help the club make an impact in the upcoming football season.
The move sees Gyan return to the Ghana Premier League for the first time since leaving Liberty Professionals in 2003.
Gyan’s is Ghana’s all-time top scorer and Africa’s top scorer at the FIFA World Cup.
Legon Cities will kick off their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign with a home game against Berekum Chelsea at Accra Sports Stadium.
