Legon Cities fires coach Goran Barjaktarevic after 17 games in charge

Legon Cities have terminated head coach Goran Barjaktarevic’s contract after 17 games in charge.

The Bosnian has been in command for 11 months after replacing John Paintsil, who did not meet the league’s criteria for having a CAF License A certificate.

During Barjaktarevic’s era with the Royals, he won just three games, all of which came in the truncated season where his team finished 14th.

As a result, the Legon Cities board invested heavily in players in this transfer window, signing 12 new players, including former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan.

However, luck remains the same as the Royals are still winless after two matches in the Ghana Premier League.

The humiliating loss to the Olympics last Friday was perhaps the final straw, as management decided to terminate the 51-year-old’s contract less than 24 hours later.

It is unclear who will replace Barjaktarevic as head coach, meanwhile Legon Cities continues preparations ahead of their third home game against Medeama SC.
