Legon Cities has confirmed the termination of forward Nicholas Gyan’s contract in less than a year.

Gyan, a former Ebusua Dwarfs captain, joined Ghana’s wealthy Premier League club on a two-year contract last year. This was after his stint with Tanzanian giant Simba FC reached one year in 2019.

However, Gyan informed Legon Cities officials to leave the club earlier this month. His decision is reportedly due to a lack of regular playing time.

Gyan failed to convince the technical team and has appeared in only two games this season.

“The club has received your letter dated February 8, 2021 and acknowledges its content as such,” read a statement from the club.

“According to the contract signed between the two parties, there are clearly established termination clauses that are binding on both parties. We refer to you the clauses established in the agreement (contract) on the beginning of your relationship with the club, here being clauses 14.1 – 14.5 “.

“In accordance with the established clauses, both (club and player) reached a contract conclusion and we wish them the best for the future.”

Gyan is expected to remain in Ghana signing for another top-level club.
