An Association calling itself the Northeast Region Tricycle Operators Association has rejected John Dramani Mahama’s proposals to create jobs with the legalization of Okada, insisting that it cannot be seen as job creation.
According to the Association, the ex-president’s move is not only lazy, but a deliberate attempt to mislead the electorate just to get their votes.
The Association believes that an endorsement for the legalization of Okada is an endorsement for armed robbery because there is no crime that has been committed in the country without the use of motorcycles.
“We believe that the legalization of Okada in the country is not just a lazy man’s form of job creation, but a deliberate attempt to mislead the electorate just to get their votes.
“By the way, legalizing Okada cannot be seen as job creation. Okada is not done with sheer force. You need a motorcycle to venture into that life-threatening business. Until HE the vice president came out boldly to reject the idea of to legalize Okada, and offered a better alternative, former President Mahama never included how they will help young people interested in Okada’s business to acquire motorcycles in his promise, ”they revealed at a press conference on Monday.
According to the group, it is quite populist, degrading and hyperbolic to classify the legalization of Okada as job creation and compare it to a good initiative like the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO).
“While we see it as a right of those who make such promises to Ghanaians, we also wish to make our views on the matter public so that the media can amplify them to the world so that the Ghanaian population can render a fair trial.
“We, the Tricycle Operators of the Northeast region, would like to affirm without equivocation that the legalization of Okada is an endorsement of armed robbery, considering the fact that no robbery is carried out without the use of motorcycles (Okada).
“The twin problems of unemployment and heavy traffic in our cities cannot be tackled with a lazy and ill-thought-out policy like the legalization of Okada. We need to invest heavily in expanding our road network and the rail sector as the government. A good number of our young people beheaded in a short time due to the dangers they will face on the road in the unfortunate event that Okada is legalized. We are also at risk of an increase in the crime and robbery rate, as criminals They will take advantage of the legalization of Okada and dare to terrorize innocent citizens with motorcycles.
“Therefore, we summarily reject the legalization of Okada because,” the group said at the conference led by its president Makom Abu.
