John Mahama said he will legalize the operation of motorcycles popularly known as Okada when he returns to power.
He made this promise during a campaign tour of Kpando, in the Volta region.
According to Mahama, the Okada business has become a livelihood for unemployed youth. “Our law says that Okada is illegal, but it is a reality that is here to stay and cannot be stopped. So I say that when we take office we will legalize it but we will regulate it, “he said.
But in a radio discussion on Neat FM on Monday, August 31, NPP communicator Asafo Adjei opined that it would be great for the NDC standard-bearer to legalize prostitution.
“I am not against Okada; It is one of the affordable means of transportation, but what will you gain if you promise to legalize Okada?
Should we clap for you? Does legalizing it mean that you have bought motorcycles for those interested?
Is this a policy of a former president? You haven’t changed or learned your lessons … (in that case) then tell former President Mahama to legalize prostitution because they are more than the horsemen of Okada. Legalize prostitution and let us know that you are creating jobs, ”he told the NDC flag bearer.
